Our Market
Grow Dirt's mission is to help eliminate the "food desert" in Uptown Baton Rouge. With our "Pop-Up" produce market pavilion, we are bringing a unique blend of wellness to the community that includes a healthy selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, a community teaching garden, opportunities to learn about healthy food choices, as well as an array of small gardening products to help you get your own garden started. Our Approach
We take a holistic approach to health and healing by starting with educating our community on the importance of consuming "real" food. We envision a place where our patrons can come feed the spirit, renew their commitment to health, and start to plant the seeds necessary to revitalize the community from the inside out. Our health is our wealth and food is the best medicine.
Building the Foundation
Grow Dirt is expanding — literally, from the ground up. We're pouring new concrete foundations at the Teaching Garden to grow our footprint and put skilled trades directly into the hands of our youth. Alongside fresh produce and garden education, we're now teaching the next generation how to build starting with concrete work, tool safety, and hands-on construction fundamentals taught by real tradesmen and finishers from our community.
We believe if we equip our young people with skilled trades, farming, fishing, and hunting, they can rebuild our inner-city communities from the inside out.
Skilled Trades Youth Event — July 30 & 31
Join us at the Teaching Garden for two days of building, growing, and community. On July 30, youth ages 10+ will get hands-on experience pouring a real concrete foundation alongside skilled tradesmen, while our Master Gardener leads younger kids in planting the next season's garden. Free lunch, a community banner unveiling, and an evening podcast recording round out the day. July 31 continues the conversation with a morning think tank, a barbershop dialogue, and a closing fellowship at Throw Dat Dirt ATV Park.
It's free to participate. Just bring rubber boots, a safety vest, and safety goggles.
